TEMPLE — The Elgin High School and Bastrop High School varsity cross country teams were just two of many schools from across Texas that competed on Sept. 1 in the annual Pro-Fit Invitational held at James Wilson Park in Temple.
BASTROP BEARS AND LADY BEARS
The Bastrop boys had two runners place in the Top 50 out of a whopping 164 runners entered in the 5A-6A three-mile run on Friday morning and as a team placed 14th. Bears senior Isaac Reutter had a great run placing 42nd with a time of 17:55.80, while Bastrop junior Rey Ponce was a few spots behind him in 50th with a mark of 18:40.50.
As for the Lady Bears, they also placed 14th as a team and were led by Bastrop junior Maritza Vargas who placed 72nd out of 156 runners in the three-mile race with a time of 23:13.90.
ELGIN WILDCATS AND LADY WILDCATS
Elgin had one runner for the Lady Wildcats do superb in the three-mile run for 5A-6A as senior Courtney Shepard cracked the Top 50 with a 49th place finish as she had a time of 22:05.10.
The Wildcats’ top runner for the boys was Elgin junior Rolando Jimenez who placed 120th out of 164 entries with a time of 19:51.80.
Elgin and Bastrop cross country teams both will compete this upcoming Friday morning in the Pflugerville ISD Invitational meet held at Northeast Metropolitan Park.
