The Elgin High School varsity volleyball team enters a critical stretch of its season as the Lady Wildcats are about to enter District 23-5A play against tough opponents.
The Lady Wildcats are coming off a couple of close match losses after playing well at home on Aug. 25 against Round Rock Meridian World School and on Aug. 29 losing a hard-fought match in five sets at Austin Hyde Park High School.
This Elgin squad will certainly have to put in work going forward as the Lady Wildcats enter district play beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Friday night at Georgetown East View High School.
Following a home match at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 12 hosting Pflugerville Connally High School, Elgin will have back-to-back road matches at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 15 at Georgetown High School and 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 19 at Cedar Creek High School.
The Lady Wildcats will conclude the month of September with a home match at 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 22 hosting Bastrop High School, away at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 26 against Pflugerville High School and back at home at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 29 vs. Pflugerville Hendrickson High School.
Under head coach Patricia Rivers-Taylor, the Lady Wildcats are led by seniors Avanity Pleasant, Emily Sumner, Makayla Taylor-Bowman and Keera Williams. This Elgin squad has a large group of juniors with Kay-Nicole Lester, Jordin Seeger, Nadia Sagastume, Sabra Baker, Jocelyn Howard and Layla Whitman. The sophomore duo includes Trinity Martinez and Sofia Ramirez, while Meta Elliott is a standout on varsity as just a freshman.
