Lady Bulldogs take a big bite out of Hearne

MCDADE – The 1A Lady Bulldogs varsity volleyball team of McDade High School continues to impress against l a r ge school s after taking down Hearne High School on Aug. 29 at home.

In three straight sets, the Lady Bulldogs made it look easy as they took down the Lady Eagles by scores of 2511, 25-10 and 25-13 for a comfortable victory.

Under McDade head coach Aaron Hallford, the Lady Bulldogs had their way throughout the night against Hearne as senior Steffanie Zavala led the way with a whopping 12 aces and a team-high nine kills on the night. The Lady Bulldogs are also getting a lot of production from freshman Leah Chavez, who stood out last week in the match vs. Hearne with 10 aces of her own and seven kills.

The Lady Bulldogs continue to rise in the Texas Girls Coaches Association volleyball poll for 1A as McDade is currently ranked No. 19 in the state.

After the Lady Bulldogs travel on Tuesday to take on Matagorda High School, McDade will return home at 6 p.m. on Friday to host Austin IDEA Rundberg High School. In a previous matchup on Aug. 24, the Lady Bulldogs thrashed the Lady Rattlers in three straight sets by scores of 25-8, 25-7 and 25-9 to seal the deal.
