BASTROP — The Bastrop High School and Cedar Creek High School varsity volleyball teams renewed their rivalry on Tuesday, Sept. 26 in an intense match between the Bears and Lady Eagles at Bastrop’s gym. In a match that came down to the wire, it was the Bastrop Lady Bears who came out on top in a five-set thriller: 25-12, 19-25, 23-25, 25-20 and 16-14 to edge the visiting Lady Lady Eagles.
Led by the duo of senior Olivia Altamirano Newman and junior Laicey Sullivent with numerous kills at the net, the Lady Bears picked up a huge win over their rival to keep Bastrop as the current No. 4 seed in District 23-5A. Bastrop sophomore Abby Thomas and senior Fallon Hall were also all over the court defensively and provided assists for their teammates.
For Cedar Creek, it was a tough loss but sophomore Keyaira Limuel Washington and junior Gracyn Hentschel kept the Lady Eagles in the match and got great play from junior Madden Denton in a hardfought defeat to Bastrop.
Following a loss in three sets on the road against top-seeded Georgetown High School on Friday night, Bastrop has matches this week at Pflugerville High School on Tuesday and Pflugerville Hendrickson High School on Friday night.
The rematch between the Lady Bears and Lady Eagles will be at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20 at the Cedar Creek gym.
