DEL VALLE — The Bastrop High School varsity cross country team was in action on Thursday, Sept. 28 as the Bears and Lady Bears traveled to take part in the Del Valle Invitational meet.
For the boys in the 5000-meter run for 5A-6A schools, it was senior Isaac Reuter leading the way for the Bears as his time of 21:01.0 was good enough for a fifthplace finish. Bastrop sophomore Asher Williams had a solid run and finished 15th in a field of 69 runners with a mark of 22:04.00, while senior Zane Tanton cracked the top 30 in 28th place with a time of 23:07.00.
As for the Lady Bears in the girls’ 5000-meter run with 47 entries, a pair of sophomores for Bastrop was out near the front of the pack as Lleradin Ponce placed 15th with a mark of 26:34.00 and Kaitlin Cox in 19th place with a time of 27:16.00.
Bastrop has one more regular-season meet on Oct. 4 in Bryan at the Rudder Invitational meet. The Bears and Lady Bears run into the postseason on Thursday, Oct. 12 in the District 23-5A Championships hosted by Pflugerville ISD at Northeast Metropolitan Park. Other schools competing in the district meet will be Cedar Creek High School, Elgin High School, Georgetown Georgetown East View High School, Pflugerville High School, Pflugerville Connally High School and Pflugerville Hendrickson High School.
