Although it has been a tough season for Elgin High School varsity volleyball, the team continues to compete within strong District 23-5A matches.
In a road match on Sept. 26 at Pflugerville High School, the Lady Wildcats had a golden opportunity to record their first district victory against the Lady Panthers of Pflugerville High School. Both teams struggled to start district play winless but Elgin came up short against Pflugerville in three sets: 7-25, 12-25 and 14-25.
In the loss, Elgin sophomore Trinity Martinez had a good match and was all over the floor defensively with a teamhigh 13 digs and 21 serves received, while senior Avanity Pleasant had 11 digs and nine serves received of her own. Three Lady Wildcats had a pair of kills on the night: Pleasant, junior Layla Whitman and freshman Meta Elliott. Pleasant also served up two aces against Pflugerville, while junior Jordin Seeger had six digs.
Following a rough home -loss in three sets on Friday evening at the hands of Pflugerville Hendrickson High School, the Lady Wildcats will have a pair of matches this week. Following a Tuesday home match vs. Georgetown East View High School, Elgin will travel at 6:30 p.m. on Friday evening to take on Pflugerville Connally High School.
