Cedar Creek, Smithville both excel at Giddings

GIDDINGS — The Cedar Creek High School and Smithville High School varsity cross country teams each competed on Friday, Sept. 29 in the Camp Tejas Invitational meet hosted by Giddings High School.

CEDAR CREEK EAGLES AND LADY EAGLES

In a field of 79 runners in the 5A-6A boys’ 5,000-meter run, Cedar Creek had the top runner of the morning cross the finish line ahead of all the rest. Eagles senior Alejandro Ruiz was outstanding for Cedar Creek as his stellar time of 15:54.00 placed him in first by a 20-second margin in front of the remaining field. Fellow senior Matthew Sobeck placed 25th with a mark of 17:42.00, while junior Eduardo Torres-Alamilla came in 34th place with a time of 18:27.00.

As for the Lady Eagles, they were led in the girls’ 5,000-meter run by Cedar Creek senior Paisley Smith in 20th place out of 77 entries with a mark of 21:57.00.

Cedar Creek has wrapped up its regular-season schedule and will run on Thursday, Oct. 12 in the District 23-5A Championships hosted by Pflugerville ISD at Northeast Metropolitan Park.

SMITHVILLE TIGERS AND LADY TIGERS

Another meet, another great performance from the Smithville varsity cross country program to cap off September.

In the girls’ two-mile run for 4A and below, the Lady Tigers had three girls take home medals by placing in the top 15 with junior Addison Waneck in ninth with a time of 13:37.00, freshman Emorie Jones in 10th with a mark of 13:39.00 and fellow freshman Brityn Roberts right behind in 11th place with a time of 13:41.00 in a field of 81 runners.

As for the Tigers in the boys’ 5,000-meter run for 4A and below, freshman Will Metcalf led the way for Smithville in fifth place with a mark of 18:20.00 and junior Elijah Romero also cracked the top 20 in a field of 72 entries in 17th place with a time of 19:01.00.

Smithville will compete next on Oct. 12 in the District 22-4A Championships meet at the same Tejas Camp course near Giddings.
