SMITHVILLE — The Lady Tigers picked up a District 22-4A victory on the road as Smithville High School was in control from start to finish on Sept. 26 against Austin Achieve High School. In three straight sets, the Lady Tigers dominated the Lady Polar Bears: 25-13, 25-4 and 25-17 to seal the deal for the district win.

Smithville was led on the night by sophomore Jenna Carroll with a match-high 11 kills, while senior duo Caylee Hill and Leah Segura finished with seven and six kills, respectively. Lady Tigers senior Winter Mares was all over the court with a team-high 14 digs, while junior Kaycee Nutt finished with eight digs of her own in the victory over Achieve.

Unfortunately for Smithville, they had the tough task of going on the road last Friday night to take on a very good Taylor High School team. Although the Lady Tigers were able to hang with the Lady Ducks for a decent part of the match, Smithville fell to Taylor in four sets: 10-25, 25-22, 14-25 and a close 21-25 defeat in the fourth set.

After the Lady Tigers host Caldwell on Oct. 3 for Pink Out, Smithville will remain at home this Friday evening for a pivotal district match vs. rival La Grange High School.
