PFLUGERVILLE — The Bastrop High School varsity volleyball team remained in prime playoff position for 5A-District 23 last week as the Lady Bears had road matches on Oct. 3 at Pflugerville High School and Oct. 6 at Pflugerville Hendrickson High School.

Under head coach Morgan Rollins, the Lady Bears were able to get a valuable district road victory last Tuesday as Bastrop won in four sets against the Pflugerville Lady Panthers: 25-27, 25-21, 26-24 and coasted 25-14 in the fourth set to seal the deal.

Bast rop’s one-two punch at the net continues to be a thing of beauty with senior Olivia Altamirano and junior Laicey Sullivent, while junior Perri Lowe is also getting in on the action with plenty of kills at the net of her own in these victories. The Lady Bears also have two very reliable playmakers with senior Fallon Hall and sophomore Abby Thomas all over the court with numerous digs and assists to set up success for their teammates.

The Lady Bears had to take on the current No. 2 district seed on the road at Hendrickson on Friday evening but had a very tough time with this talented Lady Hawks squad. In three straight sets, the Lady Bears were defeated: 8-25, 6-25 and 11-25.

The Lady Bears, who remain as the No. 4 seed with a 5-4 record in district play, host Georgetown East View on Tuesday before traveling at 6:30 p.m. on Friday to take on Pflugerville Connally High School in a match that will certainly have playoff implications. Bastrop is in the driver’s seat to return to the playoffs for the first time since 2021. They were also a No. 4 seed that season and pulled off a big upset as the Lady Bears defeated one of the best teams in the area, Austin Anderson High School, in the bi-district round of the 5A postseason.
