MCDADE — The McDade High School varsity volleyball team had its impressive 13-game win streak come to a halt as the Lady Bulldogs entered last week as the No. 7 ranked squad in the Texas Girls Coaches Association poll for 1A.

Unfortunately, according to McDade head coach Aaron Hallford, the Lady Bulldogs’ home match vs. Fayetteville High School was too much to overcome with mental mistakes as the squad lost to the visiting Lady Lions in three straight sets: 15-25, 19-25 and 14-25. Although the Lady Bulldogs lost, McDade fought hard as junior Lauren Glosson had three kills, while senior Steffanie Zavala and freshman Leah Chavez had two kills of their own. Chavez was all over the court for McDade as she had a team-high 20 serves received and 10 digs, while senior Zoraya Chamberlain had 17 serves received and also finished with 10 digs against Fayetteville.

McDade had a pivotal match against No. 3 Round Top-Carmine High School at home that did not go their way as the Lady Bulldogs fell in three straight sets to an extremely talented team: 14-25, 9-25 and 13-25.

The Lady Bulldogs (13-3 overall record and 2-2 in 1A-District 28 play) should bounce back this week as Mc-Dade plays on Oct. 10 at home vs. Prairie Lea High School and then hits the road on Oct. 13 to take on Waelder High School.
