The Elgin High School varsity volleyball team continued its 2023 season last week with 5A-District 23 matches on Oct. 3 hosting Georgetown East View High and Oct. 3 on the road against Pflugerville Connally High School.

At home versus a playoff- bound East View Lady Patriots squad with a lot of talent, the Elgin Lady Wildcats certainly had their hands full. Elgin fell in three straight sets to East View: 11-25, 6-25 and 10-25. Elgin sophomore Trinity Martinez had six digs, junior Nadia Sagustume had five digs, junior Jordin Seeger had four digs, junior Sabra Baker had two kills and sophomore Bella Navejas had two kills of her own.

Although the Lady Wildcats lost in three straight sets (23-25, 9-25 and 14-25) at Connally, this team came out and played very hard in the first set but were edged by the Lady Cougars. Unfortunately for Elgin, Connally settled in on its home court and was able to handle business in the second and third sets to secure the victory.

The Lady Wildcats will have two home matches this week: Tuesday vs. Georgetown High School and 6:30 p.m. on Friday night hosting Cedar Creek High School. Elgin will have a road match on Oct. 17 at Bastrop High School next week before hosting Pflugerville High School on Oct. 20 for the final home match of the 2023 season. It will be Senior Night and a quartet of senior players will be honored: Keera Williams, Avanity Pleasant, Makayla Taylor-Bowman and Emily Sumner.
