The Elgin High School varsity volleyball team had a pair of home 5A-District 23 matches this past week as the Lady Wildcats hosted Georgetown High School Oct. 10 and Cedar Creek High School last Friday night.

Against a Georgetown Lady Eagles team that is the current top district seed with a ton of talent, the Lady Wildcats had trouble keeping up and fell in three straight sets 9-25, 7-25 and 6-25. Although Elgin lost, the Lady Wildcats continued to play hard and had a solid performance from freshman Meta Elliott with a teamhigh 14 digs, six serves received and two kills. Elgin sophomore Trinity Martinez was also all over the court for the Lady Wildcats with 22 serves received and 11 digs of her own, while junior Nadia Sagustume had four digs on the night.

On Friday hosting a Cedar Creek team that has thrust itself into the playoff conversation, Elgin held its own against these Lady Eagles in three sets but came up short 13-25, 12-25 and 15-25.

Under head coach Patricia Rivers-Taylor, Elgin will have a road match Oct. 17 at Bastrop High School and host Pflugerville High School on Friday for the final home match of the 2023 season. It will be Senior Night and a quartet of Lady Wildcat senior players will be honored: Keera Williams, Avanity Pleasant, Makayla Taylor-Bowman and Emily Sumner.
