BASTROP — Cedar Creek High School varsity volleyball is continuing to put the pieces together at the right time as the Lady Eagles won two 5A-District 23 matches this past week.
Last Tuesday evening, the Lady Eagles put on a show on their home court against Pflugerville Connally High School and came up with a thrilling five-set victory over the Lady Cougars. Cedar Creek was victorious in five sets 25-21, 22-25, 19-25, stormed back to dominate the fourth set 25-6 and handled business 15-10 in the fifth set to secure the match victory.
Against Connally, the Lady Eagles were led in the match by a stellar team highlighted by a match-high 16 kills from sophomore Keyaira Limuel Washington, 10 kills and 14 digs from junior Gracyn Hentschel and nine kills from junior Mackenzie Collins. Cedar Creek junior Gianna Del Bosque was all over the court with 37 assists and nine digs, while junior Madden Denton had 10 digs and 17 serves received in the win for the Lady Eagles.
On the road Friday night at Elgin High School, Cedar Creek was also able to take care of business in three straight sets over the Lady Wildcats by scores of 25-13, 25-12 and 25-15. Although Cedar Creek only has a 7-22 record, they have surged in district play with a 5-6 record heading into this week. Following a Tuesday road match at top-seeded Georgetown High School, the Lady Eagles will return home Friday night for a much-anticipated rematch with Bastrop High School that will have playoff implications. The Lady Bears defeated the Lady Eagles in a five-set thriller in late September when these two rivals last met.
