PFLUGERVILLE — The Bastrop High School varsity volleyball team suffered a pair of tough losses this past week as the Lady Bears fell to Georgetown East View High School and Pflugerville Connally High School.

Against East View, the Lady Bears came out strong against the Lady Patriots and took the first set 25-21 but fell in the next sets 20-25, 15-25 and another close 21-25 loss to fall in the fourth set at home.

In a rematch from when Bastrop took care of business back on Sept. 19 in four sets against Connally, it was the Lady Cougars who got the best of the Lady Bears this time in Pflugerville on Friday evening. This was a backand- forth affair throughout the match but Bastrop came up just short in five sets: 24-26, 25-18, 17-25, 25-16 and lost 9-15 in the decisive fifth set.

Now with a three-match losing streak in 5A-District 23 play, the Lady Bears under head coach Morgan Rollins are really going to have to lean on the leadership from senior Olivia Altamirano, senior Fallon Hall, senior Alison Boswell, junior Laicey Sullivent, junior Perri Lowe and sophomore Abby Thomas to secure a playoff spot.

Heading into this week, the Lady Bears (17-22 overall, 5-6 in district) should be able to handle business at home Tuesday night against Elgin High School. This will set up a major district match with postseason implications Friday night as Bastrop will travel to take on rival Cedar Creek High School. The Lady Bears defeated the Lady Eagles in a five-set match back on Sept. 26 and this match could again go either way.
