FAYETTEVILLE — The McDade High School varsity cross country team traveled last Thursday to take on the 1A-District 29 meet hosted by Fayetteville High School and had three individual runners under head coach Nick Parker qualify for the upcoming regional championships.
In the girls’ two-mile run, the Lady Bulldogs were represented well by sophomore Summer Jacobs. With a time of 14:08.18, Jacobs placed second individually for McDade and was able to qualify for the regional meet.
As for the Bulldogs in the 5,000-meter run, two boys qualified for the regional meet with McDade senior Sebastian Velazquez and junior Colby Miller. Velazquez finished in sixth place with a mark of 19:53.80 while Miller also tracked the top 10 coming across the line in 10th place with a time of 21:40.82.
The McDade boys’ junior high school squad also came home as 1A-District 29 champions with the effort they put together. Eighth-grader Marcos Suaste came in second place with a mark of 11:59.66 and seventh- grader David Palacios came in eighth place with a time of 14:17.69.
McDade varsity cross country will have its three representatives compete Oct. 23 in the 1A Region 4 meet held on the campus of Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. Jacobs will compete at 9:30 a.m. in the girls’ 3,200-meter run with Velazquez and Miller competing afterward at 10 a.m. in the boys’ 5,000meter run
