PRAIRIE LEA — The McDade High School varsity football team was in action last Friday as the Bulldogs traveled to take on the Indians of Prairie Lea High School.
Six-man mania was aplenty in the first half as both the Bulldogs and Indians traded blows on offense. Under McDade first-year head coach Nick Parker, the Bulldogs were led on the night by junior running back Trent Rizor and freshman Joseph Blakely.
Rizor was a force to be reckoned with as he rushed for 132 yards and three touchdowns on the ground on 13 carries while also scoring a touchdown on a kickoff return, while Blakely had three carries for 31 yards and also scored on a kickoff return.
The host Indians were able to run away with this game starting in the second quarter. Although Mc-Dade was able to keep it as close as a 33-26 deficit in the second quarter, Prairie Lea outscored McDade 44-6 the rest of the way as the game ended 77-32 via mercy rule late in the third quarter.
McDade (2-6 overall, 0-2 in district) will have its final two regular-season games at home as the Bulldogs host Leakey High School Oct. 20 and Medina High School Oct. 27. The Bulldogs will first host the Eagles, who enter Friday’s contest with a 3-4 overall record in 2023.
