MCDADE — The McDade High School varsity volleyball team picked up two valuable 1A-District 28 victories this past week as the Lady Bulldogs officially clinched a playoff berth.
Last Tuesday at home against Prairie Lea High School, the Lady Bulldogs really had to fight hard but were able to get the job done in a five-set thriller over the Lady Arrows. McDade came out victorious in five sets 25-5, 10-25, 2519, 20-25 and won 15-8 in the final set to seal it.
The Lady Bulldogs’ duo of senior Steffanie Zavala and Leah Chavez led the way for McDade with six kills and six aces apiece, while junior Lauren Glosson had five kills and four aces of her own and junior Kelsey Dube also had five aces on the night.
In a three-set sweep on the road last Friday against Waelder High School, the Lady Bulldogs took it to the Lady Wildcats 25-17, 25-10 and 25-15 to secure a spot in the 1A postseason tournament. Zavala led the way with a team-high eight kills and seven aces, while Chavez had a match-high 11 aces and seven kills of her own.
Following Monday night’s match against Fayetteville High School on the road, McDade (15-3 overall, 4-2 in dist r ict) will travel to Round To p - C a rmi n e High School Oct. 24 for the regular- season finale between the Lady Bulldogs and Lady Cubs.
