The Elgin High School varsity volleyball team played two of its best 5A-District 23 matches of the 2023 season this past week despite them resulting in losses Oct. 17 at Bastrop High School and at home Oct. 20 against Pflugerville High School for senior night.
In Bastrop last Tuesday, the Lady Wildcats lost in three straight sets, 17-25, a back-andforth second set 24-26 and 14-25. Elgin sophomore Bella Navejas led the Lady Wildcats with five kills, while fellow sophomore Trinity Martinez was all over the court with a teamhigh 18 digs, 13 serves received and two aces.
The Lady Wildcats played their best district match of the season last Friday in a five-set thriller against the Lady Panthers of Pf lugerville. Elgin nearly picked up its first district victory on senior night but lost in five sets 25-23, 13-25, 25-17, 16-25 and 5-15. Navejas had a teamhigh eight kills for Elgin, senior Avanity Pleasant had six kills, junior Sabra Baker added four kills and freshman Meta Elliott served up four aces and had 13 assists in the close loss to Pflugerville. Martinez had 22 digs and 26 serves received, while junior Jordin Seeger added 12 digs and had 21 serves received on the night.
Following a Tuesday night road match against Pflugerville Hendrickson High School on Tuesday night, the Lady Wildcats’ season will come to a close.
