Cedar Creek runner Ruiz qualifies for state

HUNTSVILLE – The Cedar Creek High School boys varsity cross country team was represented at a very high level Monday, Oct. 23 as Eagles senior standout runner Alejandro Ruiz was the lone entry for the program at the 5A Region 3 championship meet held on the campus of Sam Houston State University at Kate Barr Ross Memorial Park in Hunstville.

HUNTSVILLE — The Cedar Creek High School boys varsity cross country team was represented at a very high level Monday, Oct. 23 as Eagles senior standout runner Alejandro Ruiz was the lone entry for the program at the 5A Region 3 championship meet held on the campus of Sam Houston State University at Kate Barr Ross Memorial Park in Hunstville.

With a time of 16:09.44 in the boys’ 5,000-meter run, Ruiz cracked the top 10 in a large field of 181 entries at regionals Monday with a seventh-place finish that put him through to the upcoming state championship meet. Ruiz will continue his stellar 2023 cross country season and next run for Cedar Creek in the 5A state meet Friday, Nov. 3 at 9:10 a.m. held at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock against many of the top runners throughout the state of Texas.

Due to a conflicting press time, the Smithville High School boys and girls varsity cross country also competed Tuesday, Oct. 24 at the 4A Region 3 championship meet but results were unavailable.
