McDade competes at regional meet

CORPUS CHRISTI – McDade High School varsity cross country had three student-athletes run Monday, Oct. 23 at the 1A Region 4 championship meet held on the campus of Texas A&M University- Corpus Christi at the Dr. Jack Dugan Soccer and Track Stadium.

CORPUS CHRISTI — McDade High School varsity cross country had three student-athletes run Monday, Oct. 23 at the 1A Region 4 championship meet held on the campus of Texas A&M University- Corpus Christi at the Dr. Jack Dugan Soccer and Track Stadium.

Under the leadership of McDade cross country head coach Nick Parker, Lady Bulldogs sophomore Summer Jacobs represented McDade with a very high honor as she was able to qualify for the upcoming state meet with her performance. In a big field of 100 runners in the girls’ two-mile run, Jacobs battled for a time of 14:32.23 that would secure her a 20th-place finish at regionals.

McDade also had two boys runners who competed in the 5,000-meter run in a field of 100 entries Monday morning. Bulldogs senior Sebastian Velazquez cracked the top 50 in 48th place with a mark of 20:54.51, while junior teammate Colby Miller placed 77th with a time of 22:09.46.

Jacobs will compete for McDade in the 1A girls state cross country meet Friday, Nov. 3 at 10:10 a.m. as she will run 3,200 meters against the best runners in the class at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.
