BASTROP — The Bastrop High School varsity volleyball team enters its final week of the 2023 regular season as the Lady Bears started the previous week with a three-set sweep Oct. 17 at home against Elgin High School.

Under head coach Morgan Rollins, the Lady Bears got the job done and picked up a 5A-District 23 victory over the Elgin Lady Wildcats in three sets, 2517, 26-24 and 25-14 to seal the deal.

Bastrop had two players surpass individual milestones during the victory over Elgin last week. Senior libero Alison Boswell was honored after the match when she recorded her 500th career dig, while junior outside hitter Laicey Sullivent now has over 1,000 career kills for Bastrop.

Unfortunately for the Lady Bears, a three-set loss on Friday night at district rival Cedar Creek High School had their playoff hopes take a bit of a hit. Heading into this week, both Bastrop and Cedar Creek have 6-7 district records.

If the Lady Bears are unable to defeat district powerhouse Georgetown High School on senior night Oct. 24, Bastrop is going to need help to make the postseason. Pflugerville High School must defeat Cedar Creek that same night for Bastrop to still have a shot at the No. 4 seed for the playoffs.
