Lady Bears hoops trounces Eastside

BASTROP – The Bastrop High School girls varsity basketball team got off to an impressive start for the 2023-24 regular season Nov. 3 as the Lady Bears dominated their game from start to finish with a landslide 70-21 victory at home against the Lady Panthers of Austin Eastside Early College High School.

BASTROP — The Bastrop High School girls varsity basketball team got off to an impressive start for the 2023-24 regular season Nov. 3 as the Lady Bears dominated their game from start to finish with a landslide 70-21 victory at home against the Lady Panthers of Austin Eastside Early College High School.

Bastrop outscored Eastside 25-3 in the first quarter, 16-11 in the second quarter, 20-4 in the third quarter and 9-3 in the fourth quarter.

The Lady Bears handled business throughout the evening as Bastrop was led by freshman Taylor Brown, who made 7-of-8 shots for a game-high 15 points. Bastrop sophomore Za’myra Binion also scored in double figures with 14 points on 7-of-10 shooting, while the sophomore duo of Kenadee Lawhorn and Addison Moore added eight points apiece in the win over Eastside last Friday evening.

The Lady Bears also got six points from junior Alaysia Williams, six points from senior Meagan Robinson, four points from junior Paytin Greene, three points from sophomore Maggie Haywood, three points from senior Adee Olvera and three points from freshman Harmony Bonner against the Lady Panthers.

Following Tuesday evening’s game at Del Valle High School, the Lady Bears will remain on the road Nov. 10 as they take on Gonzales High School. Bastrop will have to wait until Nov. 21 when the Lady Bears have their next home game hosting Austin St. Stephen’s Episcopal School.
