During the season of giving, this year will be the first time that Elgin joins national volunteer organization Operation Turkey in their mission to combat hunger.
In conjunction with Elgin Cares, Firewild On Main is set to build and deliver over 1,000 warm meals for those in need.
“We’re constantly doing something, we’re always trying to make something better for somebody,” said Mayor Theresa McShan in a recent interview.
For the past 23 years, Operation Turkey has brought communities together across the nation to help feed and clothe the homeless and less fortunate on Thanksgiving Day. With over 40,000 volunteers, this edition’s goal is to reach 65,000 meals delivered countrywide.
Firewild On Main, Elgin’s new full-service catering and hospitality company based out of Austin, will be open from 8 a.m. to noon at 201 N. Main St., Nov. 23, with plates, care packages and clothing donations for the area’s hungry.
The team is still looking for more volunteers to help ensure everyone receives a proper holiday meal.
