BASTROP — The Bastrop High School girls varsity basketball team picked up a pair of two impressive victories this past week as the Lady Bears improved to 3-0 early in the 2023-24 regular season. The Lady Bears went on the road Nov. 7 and knocked off Del Valle High School 52-43 and then Nov. 10 won a gritty 40-38 game at Gonzales High School.
Bastrop continues to get a lot of consistent scoring from its younger players as freshman Taylor Brown went off against Del Valle with a game-high 25 points to go along with 12 rebounds and three steals on defense. The Lady Bears also got double-figure scoring from sophomore Kenadee Lawhon, who had 14 points and a team-high seven steals to help lead Bastrop to victory last week against the Lady Cardinals. Bastrop junior Alaysia Williams also had a solid all-around game at Del Valle with seven points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and three steals.
In Friday’s victory over the Lady Apaches of Gonzales, the Lady Bears got the job done and held on down the stretch for a critical two-point win. Brown had a team-high 14 points and nabbed six rebounds, while Lawhon also scored in double figures with 10 points for Bastrop and had a teamhigh seven steals against Gonzales. Williams had eight points and six rebounds, while sophomore Addison Moore had five points and seven boards.
The Bastrop girls varsity basketball program under head coach La Barbera Roberson will look to stay perfect Tuesday, Nov. 14 as the Lady Bears stay on the road to take on Austin St. Michael’s Catholic Academy. The Lady Bears will then compete Nov. 16-18 at the Cornerstone Warrior Tournament held in San Antonio before traveling Nov. 20 to take on Austin Navarro High School.
