Eagles hoops pick up more wins

Cedar Creek Eagles

BASTROP — The Cedar Creek High School boys varsity basketball team continued its strong start early in the 2023-24 regular season as the Eagles picked up lopsided victories over Del Valle High School and San Antonio Lanier High School.

The Eagles went on the road Nov. 14 and balled out against the Cardinals of Del Valle as Cedar Creek cruised to a 62-35 win. Cedar Creek had a trio score in double figures on the night en route to the dominant victory with senior Robert Conrad, junior Kenji Franklin and junior Phineas Coplin leading the way.

Conrad did it all for the Eagles with a game-high 19 points, four assists, four rebounds and two steals. Franklin could not be stopped in the paint and finished with 12 points, a game-high 21 rebounds and six assists. Coplin also scored in double figures with 10 points, five steals and four assists against Del Valle.

At a tournament beginning Nov. 16 hosted by Austin High School, the Eagles went up against an undefeated Round Rock High School team and gave the Dragons all they could handle but Cedar Creek came up just short with a 50-47 loss. Conrad led the way for Cedar Creek with a team-high 23 points, Coplin scored in double figures with nine points and Franklin had a solid outing in the loss with nine points and nine rebounds.

Cedar Creek bounced back in its second tournament game with a resounding 60-37 victory over Lanier in a game the Eagles led the Voks 56-22 after the third quarter. Eagles senior Micah McDonald led the Eagles with 16 points and four rebounds, while Franklin also scored in double figures with 12 points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals.

After the Eagles conclude the tournament, Cedar Creek also will have a home game Nov. 21 and host Austin Akins High School before the Thanksgiving break.
