Chamber lands a big one

Elgin’s long-standing Pizza Hut cemented their favor with the city by joining the Elgin Chamber of Commerce.

Elgin’s long-standing Pizza Hut cemented their favor with the city by joining the Elgin Chamber of Commerce.

A ceremonial ribbon cutting was held at the 204 U.S. Highway 290 location this past week, with staff, board members and Pizza Hut representatives joining to celebrate the new milestone relationship.

“A lot of people don’t realize that your bigger corporate businesses don’t necessarily join a chamber,” said Chamber President Veronica Seever. “So, for us to be working on this for so long and to be able to get Pizza Hut is a really big deal, and I think it says a lot about our chamber as well.”

The unification was in the works for over a year.

Larger chains and corporations aren’t typically associated with local chambers, as they already have business flowing in, added Seever. They need to see value in the relationship, and Elgin’s Chamber of Commerce apparently does just that, according to the president. Seever’s first job was at the very same Pizza Hut when they opened several years ago.

rittany Havens, field marketing manager for Pizza Hut’s Texas locations, was happy to show face at the gathering, and offered future marketing support for the Chamber and its companions.

After the ribbon dropped, Chamber leaders and members shared their own Pizza Hut stories over a few pies, reminiscing on the lost salad bars that locations used to have.

Some noted how even a big chain like Pizza Hut retains a small-town-feel in a city like Elgin, with workers remembering the orders of frequent visitors. Shop Manager Nicole Ramirez confidently confirmed this sentiment, having been with the company for six years.
