The lifeless body of a 7-year-old boy reported missing Nov. 26 was pulled from a chilly pond by searchers just hours after his disappearance, deputies said.

According to a Facebook post by the Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office, Jesus Castellanos- Carreon “was autistic, and it is not uncommon for autistic children to be attracted to bodies of water like ponds, pools or tanks.” Shortly before 3 p.m. Nov. 26, the child’s parents, identified as Felipe Castellanos and Blanca Carreon-Antonio, noticed Jesus was missing and immediately began searching the area, officials said. The pair saw signs Jesus may have ventured into a large pond near their residence on Pasadera Road and dialed 911. The Sheriff’s Office and other first responders went to the area and began an air, water and ground search, investigators said. At 7:50 p.m., the water-rescue team from the Austin Police Department located the boy’s body in 5 feet of water that registered 56 degrees, deputies said.

Those who assisted in the search included the Elgin Police Department, the Elgin Fire Department, the North Bastrop Fire Department, the Bastrop Fire Department, the Round Rock Police Department, the Heart of the Pines Fire Department, the Department of Public Safety and Bastrop County Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Cindy Allen.
