In lieu of Blue Santa toy collections and deliveries that the Elgin Police Department typically supports during the holiday season, the city’s finest will be endorsing Shop with a Cop.
Partnering with the Elgin Juneteenth Organization, local police officers will be paired with registered children for a shopping spree in Elgin’s Walmart, at 1320 U.S. Highway 290.
On Dec. 16, from 9-11 a.m., local youngsters can spend donated gift cards on toys, clothes and whatever else interests them on the shelves.
The opportunity is not set just for shopping, but it’s about building relationships between children and the police force that will stay beside them as they grow up in Elgin, according to the department.
Shop with a Cop is a chance for the community to work together with law enforcement and make a difference this time of year, brightening up the season for Elgin’s youth.
Interested parents and guardians are asked to submit the name and age of their child to [email protected] by Dec. 10, participants must be a student in Elgin Independent School District and between five and 10 years old.
Businesses that wish to partner with the event can contact Elgin Juneteenth Organization Chairperson Charlotte Thomas, at 512-784-9617.
