BASTROP — The Cedar Creek High School girls varsity basketball team recently competed at the New Braunfels Canyon High School tournament and faced a quartet of very good teams.
Following a lopsided loss on the road the previous week at Liberty Hill High School, the Lady Eagles fell short against Canyon, Boerne-Champion High School, Leander Rouse High School and San Antonio Churchill High School.
Despite the losses, Lady Eagles standout sophomore forward Keyaira Limuel Washington continued her superb start to the 2023-24 regular season as the leading scorer for Cedar Creek.
The Lady Eagles played their best basketball of the weekend against Rouse as Cedar Creek was edged 56-52 in a game that Washington was dominant. Washington had a game-high 30 points on 8-of-18 shooting with 11 free throws made, a teamhigh 10 rebounds and three blocked shots as the opposing Lady Raiders did not have much of an answer to stop her. Fellow sophomore guard Jaslene Flores also scored in double figures with 13 points, while Cedar Creek junior Elisah Sanchez added six points of her own in the close loss to Rouse.
Washington continues to be a force for the Lady Eagles as she is currently averaging a team-high 30.2 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.7 steals and 1.8 blocked shots per game for this young Cedar Creek squad.
The Lady Eagles under Head Coach Erica Cray have their first 5A-District 23 game at home Tuesday night hosting rival Bastrop High School before traveling Dec. 12 for an away contest against Pflugerville High School.
Cedar Creek High School girls varsity basketball junior Elisah Sanchez (1) dribbles the ball upcourt Nov. 14 during the Lady Eagles 70-20 home victory against Austin Travis Early College High School.
