Cedar Creek hosts Eagle Shootout

BASTROP – The Cedar Creek High School boys varsity basketball team was back in action last week as the squad hosted the Eagle Shootout Tournament on its home court against tough competition across Texas.

BASTROP — The Cedar Creek High School boys varsity basketball team was back in action last week as the squad hosted the Eagle Shootout Tournament on its home court against tough competition across Texas.

After the Eagles lost a close 74-66 game in the opener on Thursday, Cedar Creek concluded the day with a resounding 80-51 victory over Killeen High School to get back in the win column. The Eagles were led against the Kangaroos by senior Robert Conrad with 21 points and six rebounds, junior Phineas Koplin was also in double figures with 16 points with five steals and senior Leland Washington had 12 points, eight rebounds, two steals and two blocked shots.

Cedar Creek started off Friday’s action with a 58-43 victory over Vista Ridge High School and was again led by Conrad with 19 points, a gamehigh seven steals, three assists and two rebounds against the Rangers. Eagles senior Micah McDonald was also in double figures for Cedar Creek in this contest as he finished with 13 points, three rebounds and two assists. The Eagles got a lot of production out of junior Kenji Franklin as he had a double-double with 12 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, four steals and two blocks.

The Eagles concluded the tournament Friday night with a resounding 89-21 victory against the Bulldogs of Austin IDEA Montopolis Academy. Koplin had 20 points, junior Braydon Adams had 11 points and fellow junior Dillon Dubee had 10 points, five rebounds, three steals and two assists in the blowout win.

Following a 2-2 start to the 2023-24 regular season, the Eagles have won seven of their last eight games under Cedar Creek Head Coach Valentino Maxwell and continue to roll. The Eagles (10-3) will have a non-district road game Friday night at Burnet High School and return home Tuesday to host Cedar Park High School.
