SCHULENBURG — The Smithville High School boys varsity basketball team went on the road Tuesday, Dec. 5 and the Tigers got a key 47-38 victory over Schulenburg High School.

After Smithville took a quick 14-10 lead by the end of the first quarter, the Tigers, under Head Coach Chris Young, played tight team defense that helped the lead balloon to 32-19 over the Shorthorns in the third quarter.

Smithville kept Schulenburg at bay the rest of the game, as the Tigers picked up their third victory of the 2023-24 season.

In the nine-point win, the Tigers were led on the night by junior Ramonz Adams with a game-high 24 points, seven steals on defense, five rebounds and two assists. Adams continues to be a standout athlete for Smithville as he had a 32-point performance Nov. 21 during a thrilling 69-64 overtime win at home against Bastrop High School.

Also scoring in double figures on the night was sophomore Tristan Garcia with 11 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals.

After the Tigers travel Dec. 12 to take on Elgin High School, they will have another non-district road game Friday night at Lexington High School. Smithville will have its 4A-District 22 opener Dec. 19, on the road at Manor New Tech High School.
