BURNET — The Cedar Creek High School boys varsity basketball team came up just short Friday, Dec. 8 as the Eagles fell 62-54 on the road against Burnet High School.

After the Eagles got out to a quick 18-17 lead by the end of the first quarter, the Bulldogs used a 13-8 run in the second quarter to go up 30-26 at halftime. Burnet would increase its lead to 10 in the third quarter and although Cedar Creek battled, they could not pull off the comeback as the Eagles had their three-game win streak snapped.

The Eagles were led on the night by senior Robert Conrad with a teamhigh 30 points on 9-of-15 field goals made, 10-of-12 from the free-throw line, four steals and one block.

Cedar Creek also had another double-digit scorer as junior Kenji Franklin had 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the floor, two three-pointers made, nine rebounds and three blocks. Eagles senior Micah McDonald also had seven points, six rebounds, two steals and two assists in the close loss to the Bulldogs.

Now with a 10-4 overall record, the Eagles under Head Coach Valent ino Maxwell are scheduled Dec. 12 to host Cedar Park High School and then will also be at home Friday night to take on Austin Travis Early College High School. The Eagles are scheduled to start 5A-District 23 play Dec. 21 on the road against Pflugerville Hendrickson High School.
