PFLUGERVILLE — The Elgin High School girls varsity basketball team had a pair of 5A-District 23 road games this past week as the Lady Wildcats traveled to take on Pflugerville Hendrickson High School and Pflugerville Connally High School.

Against a very tough Hendrickson squad, the Lady Wildcats could not keep up Dec. 12 as Elgin fell 58-21 to the Lady Hawks. Elgin senior Jaylan Roberson had a solid all-around game for the Lady Wildcats with a team-high nine points, seven rebounds, four steals and one assist.

In a back-and-forth affair last Friday against Connally, the Lady Wildcats were edged 28-27 on the road in a defensive battle with the Lady Cougars. This contest Dec. 15 was a rematch of the previous meeting between the two schools back on Nov. 18 when Elgin won a 53-44 overtime thriller over Connally at the Crockett Tournament in Austin.

In the one-point loss, Elgin sophomore Trinity Martinez led the way with eight points on two three-pointers made, two rebounds and one steal. Fellow Lady Wildcats sophomore Sharmonique Williams had a solid all-around game with five points, five rebounds and five steals while senior Keera Williams added four points, three rebounds, two assists, two steals and one blocked shot against Connally.

After Elgin plays Dec. 19 at non-district foe Caldwell High School, the Lady Wildcats under Head Coach Chris Tibbets will return home Thursday for district play to host Georgetown East View High School. The Lady Wildcats will then compete Dec. 28-29 in the Bastrop Invitational tournament and be back in district play Jan. 5 at home when Elgin returns home and is set to compete against Georgetown High School.
