BASTROP — The Cedar Creek High School boys varsity basketball team continued its strong start to the 2023-24 season this past week as the Eagles won home games over Cedar Park High School and Austin Travis Early College High School.

The Eagles picked up a hard-fought 56-43 victory Dec. 12 against the Timberwolves of Cedar Park and a dominant 77-43 win Friday night over the Travis Rebels to improve their record to 12-4 this season under Head Coach Valentino Maxwell.

In the 13-point win over Cedar Park last Tuesday, the Eagles were again led by Cedar Creek standout senior guard Robert Conrad as he went off for a team-high 22 points, seven rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocked shots. Cedar Creek senior Leland Washington had six points on two three-pointers made with three rebounds and two blocks, while junior Phineas Koplin also had six points on two shots made from behind the arc and three steals in the victory at home over the Timberwolves.

The Eagles were dominant Dec. 15 throughout the evening against Travis in a 34-point blowout at home as this Cedar Creek squad put it all together on offense and defense. The visiting Rebels could not stop Conrad on the night as he dominated with a game-high 27 points, four steals, three rebounds and three assists. Cedar Creek junior Kenji Franklin, who surpassed 1,000 career points as a varsity player for the Eagles this past week, went off in a double-double effort with 19 points, a team-high 14 rebounds, two assists and one blocked shot. Eagles senior Micah McDonald also had nine points, three rebounds, two assists, two steals and one block in the lopsided win over Travis.

After Cedar Creek has its 5A-District 23 opener on the road against Pflugerville Hendrickson High School, the Eagles will travel Dec. 28-29 to Corpus Christi to compete in the Campbell Holiday Classic Tournament hosted by West Oso High School.
