PFLUGERVILLE — The Cedar Creek High School boys varsity basketball team had the very tough task Thursday, Dec. 21 of taking on the Hawks of Pflugerville Hendrickson High School in the 5A-District 23 opener for both teams. However, it was a game that the Eagles let get away down the stretch of the fourth quarter as Cedar Creek was edged 72-68 on the road.
With the Eagles up 53-46 entering the third quarter, the Hawks picked it up both offensively and defensively in the fourth quarter as Hendrickson rallied to victory.
Cedar Creek was again led by senior standout Robert Conrad who finished with a game-high 29 points on 11-of-20 shooting from the floor, two three-pointers made and three rebounds. Eagles junior Kenji Franklin also stepped up 26 points on 12-of-21 shots made, five rebounds, two assists and one blocked shot.
Also contributing on the night in the narrow loss for Cedar Creek was senior Micah McDonald as he had a solid all-around game with seven points, nine rebounds, eight assists and four blocks. Junior Phineas Koplin also had six points on two three-pointers to go along with three rebounds and one assist.
Under Cedar Creek Head Coach Valentino Maxwell, the Eagles now have a 12-5 overall record and will look to bounce back Dec. 28-29 when they travel to Corpus Christi to compete in the Campbell Holiday Classic Tournament hosted by West Oso High School. Cedar Creek will return to district play Wednesday, Jan. 3 at 7 p.m. when the Eagles host Georgetown East View High School.
