BASTROP — Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office deputies exchanged fire with Seth Thomas Robertson, 61, late night Dec. 23, injuring the resident.

Two units were dispatched to the location off of FM-969 around 10 p.m., west of the city, responding to a reported shot fired inside the residence, according to the department.

The female occupant who made the call proceeded to relocate to a nearby neighbor’s house, where deputies arrived shortly after.

On arrival, they were shot upon multiple times by Robertson and returned fire, not knowing if the suspect was struck in the dark, according to the department.

Additional deputies arrived and approached the suspect on foot, still armed, who raised his firearm as if to fire again, according to those involved. Two deputies then fired with their rifles, shooting Robertson twice.

Robertson was then secured and transported via EMS to an area hospital, where he remains in stable condition under guard, according to the department.

The suspect is expected to be charged with attempted capital murder.

The four deputies involved were placed on administrative leave, as per protocol, and an outside police agency responded to the scene to conduct an independent investigation, as the Sheriff’s Office requires for officer involved shootings.
