Eagles basketball splits district games

BASTROP – The Cedar Creek High boys varsity basketball squad continued 5A-District 23 action this past week as the Eagles hosted Georgetown East View High School and traveled to take on Pflugerville Connally High School.

BASTROP — The Cedar Creek High boys varsity basketball squad continued 5A-District 23 action this past week as the Eagles hosted Georgetown East View High School and traveled to take on Pflugerville Connally High School.

CEDAR CREEK EAGLES 72, EAST VIEW PATRIOTS 48

In a dominant team effort throughout the night, the Eagles picked up their first district win of the season Jan. 3 as Cedar Creek put on a show at home with a 72-48 victory over the East View Patriots.

The Eagles had four players score in double figures as junior Kenji Franklin had a double-double with a team-high 26 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the floor, a trio of three-pointers made, 12 rebounds, three assists and three blocks. Cedar Creek senior Micah McDonald had a solid all-around game with 15 points to go along with eight rebounds and six assists, senior Robert Conrad added 14 points with seven rebounds and junior Phineas Koplin also scored in double figures with 11 points on three shots made from behind the arc.

CONNALLY COUGARS 67, CEDAR CREEK EAGLES 52

Cedar Creek had a tough time in the second half on the road against Connally as the opposing Cougars used a big fourth quarter to pull away for a 67-52 win.

Scorers of note for the Eagles in the loss were Conrad with 17 points on two three-pointers made, three rebounds and two steals. Cedar Creek junior Braydon Adams also had eight points on two shots made from behind the arc with one rebound and one assist.

The Eagles (16-7 overall, 1-2 district record) under Head Coach Valentino Maxwell are scheduled Jan. 9 for a home district game versus Elgin High School and will travel Friday at 7 p.m. to take on Georgetown High School.
