EHS takes on Wonderland

The Elgin High School Musical Theater Program will be going down the rabbit hole this week with their performance of “Alice by Heart.”

The Elgin High School Musical Theater Program will be going down the rabbit hole this week with their performance of “Alice by Heart.”

The play follows a young girl who takes refuge in a London Tube station during WWII and confronts grief, loss and love with the help of her favorite book, “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland,” according to Music Theater International.

“We are one of the first groups to be able to perform this and I think that it’s incredibly exciting to take this new work and put on all of the students and their creativity that they’re pouring into this,” said Cherisa Cromer, director.

Alongside Cromer, University of Texas student Ralyssa Enueshike, serves as choreographer.

The young performers have been rehearsing weekly for several months now, both in school and independently with student-led programs.

“It’s something that you have never seen before, I promise you. All of the heart everyone’s putting into it, the audience is going to feel,” added Cromer.

The play runs Jan. 18 through 20 in the Elgin High Scholl cafetorium, with shows at 7:30 p.m. and an additional Saturday performance at 2:30 p.m.
