The new Morris Memorial Park playground is open for general use, with a celebration and dedication scheduled for Feb. 10.

The freshly sealed play area sports two stories of climbing features and roaming grounds. Slides, a rock wall and ladders stretch up high, with a periscope atop the tower to gaze out over the neighboring pond and ducks that call it home.

Beside the main shaded structure is a jungle gym, rocking chairs, four-person seesaw and a separate covered swing set.

The dedication at 802 N. Avenue C begins at 2 p.m. and will feature raff les, refreshments and free reign over Elgin’s latest addition to its growing parks selection.

The playground was funded through 2021a Certificates of Obligation and the American Rescue Plan Act.
