The Elgin Cares Organization will celebrate their communal contributions and achievements with a banquet and public auction, Jan. 27, where they will crown a Volunteer of the Year for the first time.
ECO’s mission is to end food insecurity and homelessness in Elgin, a nonprofit organization that provides resources for individuals experiencing life’s difficulties. Program benefits have lowered the number of people suffering from loss of utilities and increased support awareness, said representatives.
“The banquet promises an evening of fun and engaging experience filled with entertainment, delicious food, and great company. You will also witness firsthand the incredible impact that our organization has had on the lives of those we serve,” said Marilyn Jones, ECO volunteer.
Nearly 30 referrals were made to social service agencies in 2023, creating changes in quality of life, 17 nights of emergency shelter have been provided and the Restore Hope Tuesdays Grab & Go meal program distributed over 18,000 meals, according to the organization.
These milestone accomplishments will be honored alongside the Volunteer of the Year award at the annual appreciation banquet, open to the public.
The high recognition was created in honor of Twyla Walton Nash for her resilient work as a founding member of ECO. This year’s recognition program will be the first presentation of this special award, according to the group.
“We will be recognizing the volunteers of Elgin Cares who commit their time every year to make a positive difference in the lives of those in need. Their selfless efforts have a direct and tangible impact, but it’s their willingness to lend a helping hand and show kindness and compassion that makes the most significant difference in the lives of the people they assist,” added Jones.
A silent auction was added on the bill for this year’s event, giving attendees the chance to bid on unique items while simultaneously contributing to help Elginites in need.
The appreciation banquet is set for Jan. 27, at the Family Worship Center, 2425 Farm to Market Road 1704. Doors open at 4:30 p.m.
