Elgin High School varsity football senior standout quarterback Nathen Lewis announced his commitment Jan. 20 to continue his career as a student-athlete at Texas A&M-University Kingsville for the Javelinas football program.

“I want to start off by giving praise to my lord and savior Jesus Christ. Because without him, none of this would be possible,” Lewis said on X. “He blessed me with the opportunity and the ability to play the game I love. Then I want to say thank you to my parents and family for pushing me every day and supporting me throughout the whole process. Also for the constant love and support. Lastly, thank you to all my coaches for pushing me and helping grow me as a young man.”

Lewis was a dynamic dual-threat quarterback for the Wildcats under Elgin Head Coach Heath Clawson throughout the 2023 season as the senior finished with 1,466 yards passing on 104-of-191 attempts with 17 touchdowns through the air, 800 yards rushing and 12 scores on the ground.

“Proud of this young man is an understatement,” Clawson said. “Talented, humble, fierce competitor, great teammate and coachable. The list goes on. Javelina football just got a heck of a football player and even better person. Can’t wait to watch Nathen Lewis at the next level.”

Lewis will take his talents down south and compete for Texas A&M-Kingsville this upcoming 2024 football season under Head Coach Michael Salinas at the NCAA Division II level in the Lone Star Conference.
