GEORGETOWN — The Elgin High School girls varsity soccer team competed Jan. 18-20 at the Ladies Governor’s Cup tournament hosted by Georgetown High School and picked up a victory in the process.
Following a 4-0 loss Jan. 18 to Lubbock Monterey High School, the Lady Wildcats bounced back Friday with a dominant 6-1 victory over the Lady Titans of Victoria East High School. Elgin took a 3-0 lead at halftime and kept its foot on the gas the rest of the way with three more second-Individual statistics for the Lady Wildcats’ lopsided win against Victoria East were not made available before press time.
Elgin concluded its time at the tournament Saturday in a hard-fought 2-1 loss to the Lady Panthers of Princeton High School that went down to the wire. Lady Wildcats junior Dory Estrada continued her solid start to the season as she tallied the lone goal for Elgin in the match.
The Lady Wildcats (23-1 overall record) under Head Coach Gabriela Perez are scheduled to begin 5A-District 23 play Jan. 23 on the road against Georgetown East View High School and then Elgin will return home Friday, Jan. 26 to host Pflugerville Connally High School. The East View Lady Patriots also played Victoria East at the Governor’s Cup and defeated the Lady Titans by a score of 3-2.
