The Elgin High School boys varsity basketball team split its 5A-District 23 games this past week as the Wildcats hosted Pflugerville High School and went on the road to take on Pflugerville Hendrickson High School.

The Wildcats took care of business Jan. 17 at home as Elgin got off to a huge lead in the first half and did not look back in a 66-52 victory over the visiting Pflugerville Panthers. Team defense was a major factor in this game as the Wildcats did not let the Panthers get into a rhythm offensively.

Elgin was led against Pflugerville by junior Marcus Hickman with a team-high 14 points on four three-pointers made, two rebounds, one assist and one steal. Wildcats senior Nathen Lewis also scored in double figures with 13 points to go along with six rebounds and five assists, while junior Amar Bermudez had eight points on two shots made from behind the arc, three rebounds and one steal in the win over the Panthers.

Following a 55-37 loss on the road Jan. 19 to the Hendrickson Hawks, the Wildcats (15-6 overall, 3-4 in district) under Head Coach David Wilson next have district games scheduled Jan. 23 at home versus Georgetown East View High School and Jan. 26 on the road against Pflugerville Connally High School.
