Lady Bulldogs drop OT heartbreaker

RICHARDS — The McDade High School girls varsity basketball team traveled Saturday, Jan. 20 for a 1A-District 29 game and the Lady Bulldogs fell in a hard-fought 49-43 overtime loss to Richards High School.

The Lady Bulldogs and host Lady Panthers were neck-and-neck throughout as the score was tied 10-10 after the first quarter, McDade took a 22-20 lead into halftime, Richards knotted it up at 32-32 at the end of the third quarter and this game went to overtime squared away at 39-39.

Although McDade came up just short in overtime, the Lady Bulldogs got a standout all-around game from sophomore Alexis Pacheco as she led the way with 12 points, had a game-high 13 steals, pulled in five rebounds and dished out three assists.

McDade junior Jessica Dube had seven points to go along with seven rebounds and four steals, while sophomore Summer Jacobs had six points, nine steals, eight rebounds and four assists. Also making an impact in the loss to Richards was Lady Bulldogs senior Steffanie Zavala with six points on a pair of three-pointers and junior Lauren Glosson also with six points, five rebounds and five steals.

McDade (7-8 overall, 3-6 in district) under Head Coach Aaron Hallford will resume district play this week. The Lady Bulldogs are scheduled Jan. 23 to host North Zulch High School and will travel Friday, Jan. 26 to take on Dime Box High School.
