The Bastrop Opera House has been recognized as one of the meccas of entertainment in the greater Austin area.
At the recent 2022 BroadwayWorld Austin Awards, the Bastrop Opera House took home five awards and was runner-up in two categories. The event honored the best regional productions and touring shows which were voted on by audience members themselves.
Four of the first-place accolades stemmed from Bastrop Opera House’s production of Little Shop of Horrors back in May 2022, including overall Best Musical.
In addition, the following cast and crew members won in their respective categories: Megan Pritchett for Best Music Direction & Orchestra Performance, Mike Farenthold for Best Sound Design of a Play Or Musical and Dustin Bartee for Best Supporting Performer in a Musical. Also for Little Shop of Horrors, Aline Forastieri was voted as runner-up in the Best Performer in a Musical category.
Kelsey Layton won Best Cabaret/Concert/Solo Performance for her work in Valentine’s Day Cabaret, and Bastrop Opera House finished as runner-up for Favorite Local Theatre behind Zach Theatre in Austin.
“I personally find it such an honor to be the executive director of this historic theatre we call the Bastrop Opera House,” said BOH executive director Lisa Holcomb in a press release. “As the director of Little Shop of Horrors, which received several awards, I was privileged to work with amazing talent, from every cast member, to every musician and all the tech and crew.”
Holcomb added that receiving these awards was especially satisfying given the struggles BOH persevered through during the COVID-19 pandemic. Holcomb thanked the community for their support.
