Elgin powerlifting hosts Wildcat Invitational

The Elgin High School varsity powerlifting team hosted the Wildcat Invitational meet Saturday, Jan. 27 and the Wildcats and Lady Wildcats both had a lot of success.

The Elgin High School varsity powerlifting team hosted the Wildcat Invitational meet Saturday, Jan. 27 and the Wildcats and Lady Wildcats both had a lot of success.

ELGIN LADY WILDCATS

The Elgin girls were victorious yet again as a team as the Lady Wildcats placed first out of 18 schools in attendance. Three Lady Wildcats won gold medals, two took home silver, three bronze, one fourth-place finisher and three placed fifth in their respective weight classes.

Nya Kirk Jones dominated the 242-and-over weight class as she lifted 1,270 total pounds, Maria Yanez was victorious in the 123-pound class with 900 total pounds lifted and Elizabeth Nunez won the 114-pound class with 875 total pounds lifted.

Jaliyah Price was the runner-up in the 220-pound class with 855 total pounds lifted, while Grace Hagen finished second in the 181-pound class with 845 total pounds lifted.

Elgin had a trio of third-place finishers with Jordin Seeger in the 148-pound class lifting 915 total pounds, Alexia Perez in the 181-pound class with 715 total pounds lifted and Zoey Smith in the 105-pound class with 570 total pounds lifted.

Danielle King placed fourth in the 148-pound class with 860 total pounds lifted, while three Lady Wildcats placed fifth with Deysey Sanchez in the 123-pound class lifting 675 total pounds, Jessica Dominguez in the 132-pound class with 655 total pounds lifted and Citlalli Jiminez in the 181pound class with 620 total pounds lifted.

ELGIN WILDCATS

The Elgin boys placed second as a team out of 18 schools as the Wildcats had three gold medalists, one bronze, one fourthplace finisher and another finish in fifth place.

Melanio Perez dominated the 198-pound class as he lifted 1,605 total pounds, Miguel Nunez won the 181-pound class with 1,375 total pounds lifted and Alejandro Arroyo was victorious in the 165-pound class with 1,290 total pounds lifted.

Chance Postell placed third in the 181-pound class with 1,295 total pounds lifted, Jaydon Sawyer came in fourth place in the 220-pound class with 1,330 total pounds lifted and Jeffery Love was the fifth-place finisher in the 242-pound class with 1,255 total pounds lifted.

Elgin powerlifting will have this week off from competition but will return to action Saturday, Feb. 10 at the Smithville Tiger Invitational meet. Be sure to check out the official THSPA and THSWPA websites for full meet results this season.
