The Elgin High School boys varsity basketball team had its 5A-District 23 playoff hopes take a blow this past week as the Wildcats fell at home to Georgetown East View High School and on the road at Pflugerville Connally High School.

EAST VIEW PATRIOTS 65, ELGIN WILDCATS 48

The Wildcats held around for the first two quarters but a big second half from the Patriots was a major factor in East View’s 65-48 win over Elgin.

Facing a 17-10 deficit at the end of the first quarter, the Wildcats remained in the game as they cut the halftime margin to just 29-24. However, a 24-16 run in the third quarter put East View comfortably ahead for the remainder of the game.

CONNALLY COUGARS 61, ELGIN WILDCATS 44

Although the Wildcats got off to a solid start in the first quarter and were in a back-and-forth affair in the second quarter, the host Cougars took control in the second half as Connally handled business against Elgin with a 61-44 victory.

Elgin (15-8 overall, 3-6 in district play) under Head Coach David Wilson is scheduled Jan. 30 to host Georgetown High School and will remain at home Friday, Feb. 2 at 7 p.m. versus Cedar Creek High School.
