One files for council seat

City and school elections are Saturday, May 6, and so far, only one person has filed for the city council seat.

YaLecia Love is the sole candidate, at the moment, for Council Ward 2. The seat is currently held by Skyler Maldonado and expires May 6.

Other council seats set to expire in May are Arthur Gibson II for Ward 1, Matthew Callahan for Ward 3 and Forest Lee Dennis for Ward 4.

At press time Tuesday, information about candidates for Elgin ISD was not available.

Residents in northeast central sections of Elgin will have one of two seats on their ballot for the school board. Terms for Districts 1 and 2 are expiring, which are currently represented by Board President Byron Mitchell and board member Pete Pega, respectively.

Elgin ISD is divided into seven districts, each represented by one trustee on the school board. District 1 includes much of east rural Elgin. District 2 covers mostly northeast Elgin and land to the north. A district map can be found at http://www.elginisd.net.

Candidates have until Feb. 17 to file for election at either the school or city.
