Area powerlifters compete at Smithville

SMITHVILLE – Bastrop County boys and girls varsity powerlifting teams were in action Saturday, Feb. 10 as Smithville High School hosted a meet with area athletes competing in the bench press, squat and deadlift.

SMITHVILLE — Bastrop County boys and girls varsity powerlifting teams were in action Saturday, Feb. 10 as Smithville High School hosted a meet with area athletes competing in the bench press, squat and deadlift.

SMITHVILLE TIGERS AND LADY TIGERS

Smithville had a lot of success at its home meet as the Lady Tigers had seven top-three medalists and the Tigers had five top-three medalists.

The Lady Tigers had gold medalists with Emery Bayer first in the girls 132-pound class with 615 total pounds lifted and Blythe Edwards in the 97-pound class with 365. Silver medalists were Joanna Ngim in the 132-pound class with 585, Shantel Harlow in the 114-pound class with 580 and Elena Romero in the 97-pound class with 355. Bronze medalists were Raya Powell in the 123-pound class with 645 and Andrea Sambrano in the 97-pound class with 315.

The Tigers had a gold medalist with Noah Baxter in the boys 220pound class with 1,370 total pounds lifted. Silver medalists were Chris Borja in the 220-pound class with 1,335 total pounds lifted, Gilberto Jaimes in the 132-pound class with 875 and Travis Steubing in the 114pound class with 630. Jose Soto was a bronze medalist in the 198pound class with 1,175 total pounds lifted.

ELGIN WILDCATS AND LADY WILDCATS

Elgin High School had several top-three medalists as the Lady Wildcats and Wildcats competed hard in Smithville.

JaLiyah Price was victorious in the girls 220-pound class as she lifted 885 total pounds to bring home a gold medal, Grace Hagen was the silver medalist in the 181-pound class with 805 and Elise Rhodes earned bronze in the 198-pound class with 670.

Matthew Clear placed fourth for the Wildcats in the 198-pound class with 1,160 total pounds lifted, Sebastian Monroy was also a fourth-place finisher in the super heavyweight class with 995, Ernesto Ramon placed fifth in the 198-pound class with 1,130 total pounds lifted and Ayden Vazquez was a fifth-place finisher in the 242-pound class with 925.

CEDAR CREEK EAGLES AND LADY EAGLES

Cedar Creek High School also competed as the Eagles had one gold medalist as well as two bronze medalists, while the Lady Eagles had a trio of silver medalists and one third-place finisher.

Hector Ar redondo was victorious in the boys 275-pound class with 1,410 total pounds lifted, Lance Jaramillo won bronze in the super heavyweight class with 1,085 and Matthew Chen placed third in the 148pound class with 925.

Eunice Ramos was the runner-up in the girls 220-pound class with 785 total pounds lifted, Alyna Monreal-Cancino was a silver medalist in the 198-pound class with 740, Guadalupe Anguiano- Garcia placed second in the 105-pound class with 455 and Camryn Hall was a bronze medalist in the 165-pound class with 660.

BASTROP BEARS AND LADY BEARS

For Bast rop High School, the Bears and Lady Bears each had one bronze medalist. Hannah Sagebiel placed third in the girls 181-pound class with 675 total pounds lifted, while Ethan Miller was a third-place finisher in the boys 114-pound class with 435.
