The Elgin High School boys varsity soccer team picked up its first 5A-District 23 victory this past week as the Wildcats blanked Bastrop High School 3-0 on the road.

In addition to a strong team defensive performance throughout the match against the Bears, the Wildcats got the job done on offense with three goals. Scorers for Elgin in the shutout win over Bastrop were Teo Ferrusca, Memo Hernández and Luis Cruz-Rodriguez.

“We converted our chances early and didn't let off the gas,” Elgin Head Coach Eduardo Lerma said. “Our guys have the chances to score but sometimes we can't finish and we are currently working on that.”

Following a tough 4-0 loss Feb. 9 at home to Pflugerville High School, the Wildcats (2-9-3 overall, 1-4-1 district record) were scheduled Feb. 13 for a district road match at Pflugerville Hendrickson High School and will remain away Friday, Feb. 16 at Georgetown East View High School in the second half of district play.
